Complete Representation for all citizens of Young County, Balanced Budgeting, total transparency leading to improved public trust, maintaining a fair and efficient Judicial system, ensuring a current and timely court docket.
What are your qualifications for this office?
8 consecutive terms as a member of the Commissioners Court. 5 as Young County Precinct 2 Commissioner and 3 as Presiding Officer of Commissioners' Court and County Judge of Criminal Misdemeanor A & B offences, Probate Court including testate and intestate matters, guardianships, MHMR and Juvenile detentions (initial and long-term) Courts. Demonstrated and proven leadership you can trust, judicially and administratively. Reliably experienced and ready to work for you on day one. Transparency from start to finish- I will maintain an open-door policy, keeping regular business hours from Monday through Friday. Continuing my dedication to opposing unreasonable taxation and loss of Young County assets.
List 3 major issues you would confront if elected, and how would you work to resolve those issues:
Long range cohesive county wide planning: What do we envision for the next 5, 10, or 20 years? What types of development do we want and how can we prepare for its impact before it arrives. I propose forming a committee with knowledgeable volunteers from cities, subdivisions, rural areas, ISDs, Hospital Districts. One of the nation’s largest and fast-growing cities is at our doorstep and expanding quickly. It is our responsibility to cultivate our shared vision of how we develop our County moving forward.
Balanced Budgeting: The County Judge is tasked by law to put forth a "Proposed Budget". The full Commissioners' Court is tasked with the final draft, its presentation to the public and adoption that may be amended. I have produced eleven Proposed Budgets. All were balanced and fully funded with less tax and less bottom line than what was eventually adopted. I will continue my efforts to produce a lean, balanced, and fully funded proposed budget with enough reserve to pick up any short-funded item without amending the bottom line.
The road and bridge program: I will objectively consider a unified road and bridge program. There is no actual road and bridge dedicated tax, these budgets are pulled directly from the general fund leading to competition between the individual precincts. We are at the forefront of a major influx in construction traffic on an industrial scale, with potentially three large-scale projects that will increase the strain on our current system. Through a more centralized overall county budget with a cohesive road and bridge program we can reduce competition between precincts and increase overall efficiency.
